PKK Proposes Dialogue with Turkey

Ankara, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) The PKK (Workers Party of Kurdistan)
invited the Turkish government to dialogue Friday to end hostilities
in the southeast of the country and its possible military withdrawal.

Turkey maintains 150,000 soldiers deployed on the border with Iraq,
ready to attack Iraqi Kurdistan territory to eliminate PKK redoubts.

In an official report from a western European country disclosed by
Firat News Agency, the autonomist organization founded in 1978 by
Abdula Ocalan, currently in prison, assured it was open to dialogue
in order to initiate a political process.

PKK took up arms in 1984 to vindicate the rights of almost 15 million
Kurds who live in southeast Turkey, who were denied use of their
language except in familiar and local environments.

The armed confrontations have been intermitent since then, and since
last September 50 people have died, 14 of them Turkish soldiers.
