I'm unsure of your meaning, but on the off-chance you aren't aware: That's
because a Christian theologian wrote it. Leaving aside Eagleton's early
essays for the Dominicans' *Slant *journal, as well as his 1970 monograph *The
Body As Language: Outline of a 'New Left' Theology*, his career now seems
to have come full circle with the publications of *On Evil*; *Reason,
Faith, and Revolution: Reflections on the God Debate*; *The Meaning of
Life: A Very Short Introduction*; etc.
