Ok for me. Will you book a zoom room, Bruce?

Maybe come May we can meet at a 6 foot distance in our backyards.

Elizabeth

Dear all,

Here is the email I sent for the next EP meeting. As it turns out, I have a commitment on Friday from 3:00-4:30. I could still do the EP meeting if we could work it for either before or after that time.

It would be great to see all of your faces!

Best,
Bruce

Dear EP group,

We had an organizational meeting on Friday and discussed the future directions of the group. Although Elizabeth was not able to make that meeting, I had consulted with her about her wishes ahead of time. Here is what came out of it.

1. We are going to evolve toward becoming a journal club. That is, the main focus of the group will be on doing readings and discussing relevant ideas. However, if anyone ever wants to present a research idea or research findings to the group, that would have first priority.

2. In moving toward a journal club, we will choose thematic topics, which we will pursue over time (such as for a semester, or even a year). That could involve reading a book, or reading related journal articles/chapters. We decided that the first topic would be current issues in life history theory, particularly as it would inform research questions of interest to the group. For our next meeting, we are going to discuss some work involving internally- vs. externally-focused life history models. See attached. There is a target article by Rickard et al., and comments by Belsky and Del Giudice.

3. We decided on a regular time, which ideally will not change or ever require any Doodle poles. That time is Fridays at 4pm. The idea is that will always be the time that our group meets. The group decided that we will hold these meetings at people’s homes (not on campus). Here is the schedule for the rest of the semester:

March 20: Bruce’s house (1854 E. Kensington)
April 3: Alex’s house (179 F. St.)
April 17: Katie’s house (1288 E Crystal Ave)
May 1: Lisa’s house (314 3rd Ave.)

We will probably continue to meet through the summer, as it is likely that all of us will be traveling less, unless we have all succumbed to the plague by then.

4. We had some discussion about group size. The general consensus was to keep it small. There may be room to add one more professor/graduate student, or not?

Best,
Bruce
