I just want to make sure that everyone received this email as EU grades can adversely effect students being eligible for Financial Aid.

This e-mail is to provide a reminder for important information regarding a policy that became compulsory with an effective date at the end of fall term 2008.  The policy is in University Policy 6-100-III Section 8 and may be found at: http://www.regulations.utah.edu/academics/6-100.html

Part 6: Academics Section 8: Grades
When an instructor has no record of attendance or other evidence of participation in the course by a person whose name appears on the Registrar's final grade report, the instructor should enter the grade "EU" for that person. When no grade is entered for any person listed in a final grade report, the Registrar shall record an "EU" for that person. The grade "EU" shall be treated as an "E" in calculating grade point averages, but it shall be disregarded in calculating "section mean grade."

The policy is also published in the General Catalog in the "Grading Policies" section:
EU (Unofficial Withdrawal) Grade.  The grade EU is given to a student whose name appears on the Registrar's final grade report but for whom there is no record of attendance or other evidence of participation in the course.  The EU grade is treated as an E in calculating the student's GPA

After the online grading period closes on August 15, 2011 the Office of the Registrar will run a process to change remaining blank grades to the EU grade.

It is imperative that all grades are submitted immediately upon completion of the online grade posting; including term grades, incompletes, or "T" grades.  Failure to report grades in a timely manner has prevented students from graduating and ordering finalized transcripts.  This has prohibited some students from being accepted in graduate programs or accepting employment opportunities.
