A historian friend has just drawn my attention to the following
Despite the fact that British investment in the US was liquidated as
part of the inter-imperialist rivalry underlying the second world war,
despite Britain's poor manucturing performance, and sinking exchange
rate, it has recently been reported that....
British foreign investments (eg shares and securities) at #320 billion,
almost equal foreign investments of the USA at #380 billion - 84% of
the US figure.
It seems remarkable, but is it without power implications, because it
is merely rentier capital?
