Austin,

I would suggest beginning with Part III of Capital--Producation of Absolute
Surplus Value.  Part I particularly is heavy going, with Marx's Hegelian
elements still uncleaned out.  Althusser has a French Preface to Capital
which gives his own recommendations on reading Marx which you might find
useful.  It is in Lenin and Philosophy as  one of the chapters.
