Hey, lay off the Jesuit. Ok, so he believes in an ancient Sumerian
war god. BIG F'n DEAL! The question is, when the shit goes down, what side
of the barricades will he be on? Will his belief in YWHW, skygod of
mountains, fire, and war prevent him from being able to make concrete
analyses of situations in the present. I have had discussions with
preachers and preists who were on the money. I've talked with people who
believed that we couldn't be free until GOD decided we were ready. If a
man or woman decides that the comandmants of GOD and Christ demand that he
build heaven on Earth and overthrow Mammon, who am I to say no. Gun toting
preists in Nicaragua and El Salvador have done more to advance the
struggle than some of us here (myself included). He didn't come on here
preaching that we were all in for hell and damnation.
That said, I still think his vision of the future is fucked.
Market socialism!? The market is so efficient because it it externalizes
most of its costs. I argued furiously with one of my professors on exactly
how "efficient" the market is. If we include: polution, lack of safety,
stress, homecare, childrearing, armaments, advertizing, etc. we can see
that in fact, the market isn't very efficient at all. The market is a
mechanism for exchange values. The purpose of socialism is to get back to
use values. (Fun fact: in Beijing they are now selling time on clean air
tanks in bars. For a few dollars more, you can get some herbal scents
mixed in.) Using the oh so inefficient central planning system, the
bureaucracy heavy Soviet Union dragged itself from being an agrarian state
which still used wooden plows and wooden oil deriks to being the second
most powerful country in history, and for a time, the leader in space
technology, medicine and several other areas. Now that central planning
has gone to the wayside, Russia has become what it was in the begining, a
3rd world nation.

I'm not anti-society, society's anti-me
I'm not anti-religion, religion's anti-me
I'm not anti-tradition, tradition's anti-me
I'm not anti-anything, I just want to be free.
