I beg to differ with you from my reading of Marx.  Marx's vision of a
workers' state was one run by workers.  This requires the existence of
competing parties, candidates, presses, etc.   While Marx endorsed the
"Commune" as a model of such a state, he elsewhere referred psotively to what
we call representative democracy.  See Hal Draper's excellent series of
Marx's theory of revolution.
