May Day in Mexico

Today's New York Times, of all papers, reports that there was a vast
demonstration in honor of May Day in Mexico City yesterday, conducted in
defiance of the official unions, which tried to suppress the event. The
article described "a river of workers that flowed continuously for four
hours along 25 blocks in the center of the capital." This appeared the same
day as a front-page story reporting a new deference by the Mexican
government to the U.S. on foreign policy issues, and a business-page
article reporting a very successful sale of a new issue of Mexican bonds.
Rather surreally, the bond article said that the new issue would reduce
Mexico's outstanding debt.

If anyone has more reports on the Mexican May Day, I'd love to hear them.
