FUJIMORI VISITS CLINTON: DEMAGOGUERY OF A WICKED DICTATOR
PEOPLE OF PERU RESIST AND COMBAT WITH MORE PEOPLE'S WAR.

On the afternoon of May 21st, following the mass work of the MPP,
several supporters of the People's War in Peru joined a
demonstration against the murderer Fujimori in front of the
Peruvian Mission to the United Nations in New York. The call to
this important event was initially done by the relatives and
families of U.S. activist Lori Berenson. In a democratic manner,
both forces together rallied and picketed the genocidal dictator.
Several members of the Berenson family spoke at the rally,
including a Comrade of the MPP who in a strong speech delivered
in English and Spanish denounced the crimes of the brutal
dictator and the complicity of the US government. It was a
meaningful unity in the heat of the struggle, with democratic
forces working on behalf of the release of U.S. political
activist, Lori Berenson.

Showing his known chicanery, in the morning of May 21st, Fujimori
stated in a press conference in Washington DC: "Peru will soon
become the tiger of the Andes that will compete with the Asian
tigers." This cynical statement was made in spite of the deep
economic crisis that prompted a 26% increase of the price of
gasoline and a 100% increase in the national deficit. The same
day, according to transcripts released by the White House
published in the press, Fujimori reported his master Bill
Clinton: "Lori Berenson had a fair trial. A civilian trial is no
longer necessary. Unfortunately, she and her lawyer claimed her
membership in the MRTA." This was a bold face lie of the dictator
that his "faceless military judges" could not prove. Fujimori
tried to justify the unjust imprisonment of Lori Berenson by
informing his master that the capitulating MRTA group is still in
the struggle: "MRTA IS A TERRORIST GROUP BLOODIER THAN SENDERO
LUMINOSO." In a subsequent interview with US News & World Report,
Fujimori refused to explain the recent discovery of 174 kilos of
pure cocaine in a plane of the Peruvian Air Force with 4 officers
in board. Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter also released a
statement asking the Clinton Administration to order its puppet
in Peru to grant a "fair trial to Berenson." But, it is not a
fair trial in Peru's kangoroo courts or faceless courts that the
people want, but the unconditional release of more than 7,500
political prisoners and prisoners of war, including U.S.
political activist Lori Berenson.

Meanwhile in Peru, on May 16th, at 10:30 PM, a car bomb with 150
kg. of pure dynamite exploded at the main headquarters and
warehouse of the imperialist company Shell-Mobil. The building
was demolished, five company trucks were burned, also the office
of Germany's Mercedes Benz was also hit. [Most Lima papers, May
17, 1996]

On midnight on May 17th, PCP combatants interrupted electricity
in most districts of Lima with a general black out. This lasted
until May 20th. [Daily Expreso May 19, 1996]

At 11:30 PM, on May 18th, combatants of the PCP, took over and
smashed the headquarters of the National Office of Human
Settlements in charge of the concentration camps and human
settlements run by the armed forces in order to "dry the sea" and
prevent the participation of the masses in the People's War. This
is the third time that this fascist organization heavily
protected by the military, has been attacked by the PCP. [La
Republica, May 20, 1996] The regime tried to cover these
victorious actions of the People's War by reporting unconfirmed
"capture of terrorists."

One of the most celebrated events on May 17th was the presence of
huge red flags with the sickle and hammer prominently displayed
in each bridge of Lima and on top of the surrounding hills. One
flag in the hill named "San Cristobal" was displayed on almost
the entire day, and it was put down only after an Army patrol was
blown out in pieces by a hidden explosive inserted on the bottom
of the flag. The same day, hundreds of workers, teachers and
public employees marched in the streets against the economic
policies of the regime, especially against the increase of their
living expenses. In the interior, a 3 day armed strike was
declared in Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurimac, parts of Cusco,
Huallaga valley, etc. where the workers, peasants, and the people
carried out a successful strike. More news will be reported in
The New Flag.

The reactionary Magazine "SI," home of the most notorious
Senderologists such as Carlos Ivan Degregori and Raul Gonzales,
now openly cries about the "return of Sendero." They swallow the
worldwide counterinsurgency propaganda of a "defeated Sendero."
Rospigliosi of "SI" states: "Sendero celebrated the 16th
Anniversary of its Armed Struggle with many explosions that we
haven't seen for the last few years. They are back in many ways
and forms. Sendero has been reconstituted, and it is lubricating
its war machine in several political and military campaigns.
Sendero, in presentations to the peasants of Huanta (Ayacucho)
and Puno (border with Bolivia) has changed its approach. Sendero
now states: We have made some mistakes...the country is Sendero's
natural environment. They are back. The Army run paramilitary
rondas will eventually be defeated...We should not dismiss
Sendero's emerging capacity." [Magazine SI, May 23, 1996.]
WHEN THE ENEMY CONFESSES, NO MORE PROOF IS NEEDED!
