A CORRESPONDENT OF THE ITALIAN MAGAZINE "CONO SUR" INTERVIEWS ADOLFO
OLAECHEA, SPOKESMAN FOR COMMITTEE SOL PERU - LONDON, ON QUESTIONS AROUND THE
THEME OF INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE'S WAR IN PERU (March 96)
Q. What is the position of the Communist Party of Peru in reference to the
International Movement to Support the People's War?
A. I understand that the PCP is a Marxist-Leninist-Maoist Party which
practices proletarian internationalism, and therefore, it seems to me
natural that the proletarians, the democratic forces, those who want
socialist advance, those in favour of the revolution, would increasingly
come to understand the points of view of the PCP and the needs of the
peruvian revolution, and therefore that they would support it. In this
context I am sure the PCP welcomes all sincere support, all truly
anti-imperialist and anti-revisionist support.
Q. Which organisations and Committees are those the PCP recognises as
being solidarian with the People's War?
A. Well, in the world a number of communist parties, many other organisms
>from the masses are supporting the People's War and in general term all are
in my opinion doing a good a job in supporting the heroic struggle of the
Peruvian people and in reporting its advances. I do not think this is a
question of official representations or the lack of those. Only bureaucrats
can approach things in this manner and hanker for "official
representations". I think the important thing is to regard proletarian
internationalism as the generous contribution of the people of the world who
recognise in the Peruvian revolution their own class interests.
Q. And how does this relationship between the PCP and these organisms
A. PCP documents circulate publically - sometimes even by means of the
media in Peru and abroad - and also by means of the PCP's own channels of
distribution. Those of us who symphatise with the revolutionary struggle in
Peru guide ourselves by means of the study of these documents in order to
appreciate how the struggle in Peru relates with the interests of the
international proletariat and the world revolution.
That is how we orient ourselves. In those documents it is clearly shown
that the PCP is not divided, that the PCP denounced the "peace agreement"
fraud organised by US imperialism and the Fujimori regime and called for a
struggle against it as a plot geared to promote capitulation. With these
documents it is clear for us that the PCP continues to fight at the head of
the oppressed masses in Peru in this heroic revolutionary struggle, and
therefore, this is, in my opinion, how the legitimate movements of support
and the proletarian internationalists guide themselves in their solidarity
activities: By means of the word of the PCP and the documents from their
Q. And, what is the situation today within the international movement to
support the People's War in Peru?
I think now the situation is quite clear. The masses, the real communist
parties and all those subscribing to a true Marxist position, all of them,
have condemned Fujimori's plot and struggled against it. Only a tiny
bureaucratic layer entrenched within the Committee of the Revolutionary
Internationalist Movement (CO-RIM) has in practice turned itself into a
revisionist centre, a centre to support the sinister plans of Fujimori.
