and most importantly, the realisation of an unprecedented synthesis
of intellectual and manual labour within production. The breach between
mental and manual labour was always fundamental to capital's hegemony
and its control over the atomised mass worker within the social division of
labour. The fact that capitalism itself is pushing so hard against this barrier is
replete with significance. The 'virtual world' capitalism is racing to
assemble is nothing less than the real intersubjectivity of the human
lifeworld constituted as a third entity between capital and labour: it
is a prefiguring of communism which can only be realised/birthed by
the self-conscious, autonomous activity of the workers themselves,
however. Never was capital as a social relation more hypertrophied,
more fundamentally undercut, more compromised by its
own over-extension, more profoundly vulnerable, than it is today.

Charles: Mark are there any particular implications from this for practice and
organizing ? What sort of thing is this third entity ? Is it a new class ?
