Destruction of our local heritage is an urge for sepoys in Latin
America. One of the most symbolic gestures by Menem and Menemism
(which includes Radicals in power at the same time) was to destroy
and tear down, or recycle, historic buildings in Argentina.

Some examples of this in my own town:  the transformation of the
Spinetto Market and the Abasto Market into shopping centers, as well
as that of the Pacífico Galleries. And, worse still, the
transformation of the ground floor of a very old and cherished school
into a shopping mall (children and teachers were all crammed
upstairs). Same thing with the shopping center Patio Olmos in
Córdoba, which was built in the premises of one of the most important
high schools in the city. Fortunately, every march of protest in
Córdoba throws stones to the glass panes of the Patio Olmos. But
these are minor joys.
