A piece of popular wisdom here, part of the _Martín Fierro_. BTW, you should
read that poem, which was written from the point of view of the gauchos at
precise moment they were destroyed as a social group for ever, by a
journalist, politician and combattant who was forbidden to work as a
journalist after returning from exile during the late 1870s.
The poem, of the greatest literary merits itself, is at the same time a
piece of political writing on behalf of the poor and the harassed Creole
inhabitants of the Old Country.
I believe there are good translations to English (there is much local rustic
language in the Spanish version which would make it very hard to read in
