consider the following ratio:

        sin(x)
       -------
          x

try plugging some numbers into your calculator for the numerator and
denominator seperately. then do the ratio. try numbers in a sequence
something like this:

     .2, .1, .05, .01, .005, .001, .000005, .0000000001

now try the same numeric sequence for this:

   1 - cos(x)
   ---------
       x

and then try

    sin(x)
    -----
     x*x

i'll post the numbers up on a web page later on. the answers can be
obtained explicitly through L'Hopital's rule from calculus.
