As a step in tracking this down, would comrades kindly keep an informal
record of such incidents and inform Les Schaffer when it happens.

unfortunately, for most people using windows, it will be difficult to obtain
mail headers for _outgoing_ mail that never was delivered.

but here is what will be helpful.

Late Sunday eve i sent a post to marxism list, it didnt show up for about 12
hours, and in the meantime i resent the post, meaning two posts showed up on
the list. so the first principle is, don't resend a post immediately, but
wait at least 12 hours or so.

when a post appears lost or overly delayed in appearing, send me the
following info:

1.) the email address from which you sent post.
2.) the Data and Time when you _sent_ the post.
3.) the Subject of the post and
4.) enough of the content to identify the message if similar
posts/subject/date appeared by you.
5.) if the post finally _does_ appear, full headers of the message, found,
for example, in the copy _you receive_ from the list.

for example:

Delayed post:

1.) EMail: schaffer at optonline.net
2.) DateSent: Mon 2/12/2001 1:13 AM
3.) Subject: Marxism and Mathematics
4.) Message Fragment:

yeah, but a hyperreal number (extended reals), not a real real number.

5.) [ i threw mine away already, here is what they look like though: ]

this may look like Greek to you, but there is lots of info in here useful in
sorting out the problem.

for people using Outlook, here is how to get the headers into an email to
me:

1.) Select the message in your Inbox
2.) Right Click -> Options
3.) Select all the text in the "Internet Headers" box with mouse.
4.) Control-C
5.) COntrol-V in your mail message to me: the headers will appear
automagically.

for people using Eudora:

1.) Select message in Inbox (Double click)
2.) Click on "Blah Blah" Icon (Tool Tip says: Show All Headers)
3.) Select all the text in the header portion of the message (top)
4-5 as above.
