So inhumane treatment is justified if it could benefit humanity?  Is that
what you're arguing here?

You're evading the question.  The issue isn't animal rights activists, the
issue is the ethical questions they raise.  Indeed, one doesn't have to be
involved in animal rights activism to deal with such questions.
