Flag-carrier on the brink again

Financial Times, May 31, 2001
By THOMAS CATAN

Argentina's ailing flag-carrier, Aerolineas Argentinas, is again on the
brink of bankruptcy after talks broke down between labour unions and the
airline's Spanish owners.
Airline employees owed nearly two months' wages held noisy protests
yesterday at Buenos Aires's two airports for the second day running.
On Tuesday, they took over the airline's headquarters and blockaded runways,
forcing several planes to land at alternative airports.
They also prevented an airliner owned by Iberia, the Spanish carrier, from
taking off. Yesterday, they threatened to continue disrupting Iberia flights
into and out of Buenos Aires.
