No resistance to teen protesters
By Louise Milligan, Schools reporter
JAMES Crafti was a square peg in a round hole. Young James
wanted to talk about Che Guevara and the search for an end to
corporate globalisation. But his teachers at Carey Grammar, an
exclusive Melbourne private school, just didn't seem to get it.
So James, 16, on the advice of his comrades at Resistance, a
socialist youth organisation, enrolled at Princes Hill Secondary
College in Carlton.
Resistance national secretary Simon Butler said they also enlisted
and encouraged students from University High in Melbourne,
Sydney's Glebe High, Fort Street High and Newtown High School
of the Performing Arts, Lismore High in northern NSW, Brisbane
State High and Ferny Grove High in Queensland and Perth's
Hollywood High School (now Shenton College).
In Sydney, 14-year-old Newtown High student Lauren
Carroll-Harris said she was one of "at least 10" Resistance
members at her school.
