I advocate that people learn Marxism by reading Marx, Engels, Lenin,
Luxemburg and Trotsky to start with. Then supplement that with CLR
James, Gramsci, Amilcar Cabral, the MR school and other serious
independent Marxists to numerous to mention. But if you prefer
dogmatic answers, then the sectarian press is the place to go.
Frankly Marxmail exists as an alternative to the sectarian press. We
have many subscribers who are members of parties that put out such
newspapers, but they tend to respect the culture of Marxmail. If not,
they are shown the door. Mostly we expect people to think for
themselves here. This means applying Marxism to the living class
struggle. Marx, Engels, Lenin and Trotsky did not read the party
press to figure out how to analyze the world. They studied the
bourgeois press, or statistics from government agencies, in order to
come up with an analysis like "18th Brumaire". Do you think that Karl
Marx would have relied on some idiotic newspaper with a circulation
of 500 festooned with hammers-and-sickles and the musings of a cult
leader to explain Bonapartism? Many years from now, we will have an
autopsy on the subculture called "Marxism-Leninism" which led so many
rebellious young people to turn into blind followers of authority.
