This is a request for faxes to be sent to the US embassy in Tel Aviv in
support of Mohammed Kanana, a Palestinian who is scheduled to speak in the
US this coming weekend. Kanana is an Israeli citizen, and has not had any
trouble before in getting a visa from the US, but now obstacles seem to have
arisen. Faxes need to be sent BEFORE 7 PM Chicago time tomorrow night
(Monday, Feb. 18). Phone messages can also be left. We appreciate any help
our friends can provide.

*URGENT ACTION ALERT*
SUPPORT MOHAMMED KANANA'S VISA REQUEST

When Mohammed Kanana, General Secretary of Abna Al-Balad,
a leading Palestininian organization inside the 1948
borders of Israel, went to the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv on
Friday, Feb. 15, he was *not* given a visa to come to the
U.S. Instead, embassy staff told him he needed to come
back on Tuesday, Feb. 19, between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
(Israel time) for an interview.

MR. KANANA IS SCHEDULED TO BE A KEYNOTE SPEAKER, ALONG
WITH RAMSEY CLARK, AT MAJOR EVENTS IN NEW YORK ON FEB. 23,
AND IN LOS ANGELES AND SAN FRANCISCO ON MARCH 2, 2002.

Mohammed Kanana is an Israeli citizen and usually there is
not question about Israeli citizens receiving visas to
come to the U.S.

It is very important that individuals and organizational
representatives call, fax and/or email the U.S. Embassy to
urge that Mr. Kanana be granted a visa to come to the
United States on Feb. 21, 2002.

The calls, faxes, and emails should be polite in tone,
stating that you are looking forward to hearing Mr
Kanana's views on the present critical situation. We
should be able to hear from a wide range of viewpoints,
especially from those who are directly involved.

The U.S. embassy is closed on Monday, Feb. 18 because of
Presidents Day.

The best alternative in this case is for people to send
faxes, on letterhead if possible. The messages can be
short. The fax number is 011-972-3-510-3828.

The faxes should be addressed to "Hon. Daniel C. Kurtzer,
Ambassador of the United States to Israel."

While faxes are preferable, emails can be sent to the
ambassador at: usembassy at israel.org.il.

There is also an After Hours number at the embassy, which
is 011-972-3-516-7551.

Very important point: All communication with the U.S.
Embassy on this matter should be completed no later than 8
p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, EST, because of the time
difference.

Racism - at 415-821-6545 (phone), 415-821-5782 (fax), or

If possible, please forward a copy of your fax or letter
to A.N.S.W.E.R.
