Lou P.: The main ideological architect of the Indian removal policy was one
Lewis Cass (1782-1866) who was Superintendent of Indian Affairs for
the Michigan Territory and Secretary of War under Jackson at
different times in his career.
CB: For a bit of irony, Cass Technical High School in Detroit was named for this very same Lewis Cass. He was an early ( maybe first) governor of Michigan.
