>>What do we really know about Cannon's love life ? How much did he really
know about the United States, its culture and its people ?<<

Cannon was, of course, his party name. His real name was Kanonovich, and he
was the son of well-to-do Ukrainian Kulaks. A natural linguist, within a few
weeks of his being smuggled into the country in March, 1925, by the Foster
faction on assignment from the Cominern, he was able to master American
idiom and a dead accurate midwestern accent. However, he would occassionally
make a slip, like when he went to speak to an antiwar rally at Baruch
College and began, "Workers and Peasants of Brooklyn!" The fact that he was
in Manhattan at the time did not help matters any.
