Again, it seems inconsistent to discuss a bourgeois revolution as though
you already have a coherent national capitalist class at the start of
the process.

The Civil War WAS a "Second American Revolution" won "from the bottom
up" with the rich and powerful beneficiaries of the status quo doing
their best to minimize the dynamic for change.  There were
revolutionaries in government, though, who were mediating these
divergent interests to the benefit of the people favoring radical
change.

I'm looking forward to Louis' essay.
