at the CUNY Graduate Center

Capital Volume I

(David Harvey)

This course will undertake a close reading of Volume I of Marx's famous
analysis of capitalist production, highlighting its relevance to
contemporary conditions and its rootedness in working class politics. This
class is part of a larger series of foundational courses that will be
offered by the Brecht Forum beginning in the Fall of 2003.

The class will meet at the CUNY Graduate Center at 5th Avenue and 34th
Street. It is being offered to students registered through the Brecht
Forum's program as well as to CUNY students as a result of an innovative
collaboration with the CUNY Department of Continuing Education and Public
Programs.
David Harvey is a Professor of Anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center. He
has taught Marx's Capital almost every year since 1971 and regularly
teaches on Marxian political economy, with particular emphasis upon
urbanization and the environment. Among his publications are The Limits to
Capital, The Condition of Postmodernity, Justice, Nature and the Geography
of Difference, Spaces of Hope, and, most recently, Spaces of Capital.

Class is available to Brecht Forum Subscribers
or for a $75 admission fee.
