I agree with this of course, James. Hobsbawm's stuff on Irish Nationalism
is simply pro-Imperialist. In his lectures on Nationalism he makes much of
the fact that following WW1 nationalism was promoted as a bulwark against
Bolshevism. Quite true but one cannot conclude from that that all national
movements are bad.
Now he exists as the epitome of educated liberalism. One can do a lot with
liberals by circulating the articles that have appeared on this list.
