Oilmen flock to an alternative source:  Estimates that 20-25
percent of US imports in 2005 will come from Africa.

Exploration and development has centered on Gulf of Guinea
[advances in deepwater offshore, first deployed in Gulf of
Mexico-- this year deepwater production will exceed shallow
water-- have reduced the cost of extraction].

US interest also targets Sao Tome, and Principe, historically
the first entrepots for Portugal's slave trade.  How appropiate.

Also regarding oil, no matter which side of the
shortage/overproduction debate you take, the US DOE's Energy
Information Agency provides important surveys of countries
energy patterns and trading.  Latest country update is
