I subscribe to a version of it too, but I don't know that
"bourgeois-democratic revolutions" are "nigh on impossible" in the third
world. Starting from one angle, the economic and social development
achieved by the "Asian tigers" represents fulfillment of the famous "tasks
of the bourgeois revolution" to a degree Trotsky never expected. On the
other hand, you'd have to say that the net achievement of the Sandinistas
was to carry out a democratic, but not a socialist, revolution.
