Body found after MoD 'mole' reported missing
By Danny Kemp, Caroline Gammell and Lyndsay Moss, PA News

Police searching for Dr David Kelly, an official adviser on Iraqi arms
at the centre of a row about a government dossier on weapons of mass
destruction, found a body today.

Thames Valley Police said the unidentified male body was discovered at
9.20 this morning at Harrowdown Hill, just a mile from Dr Kelly's home
in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. A spokesman said the body matches that of Dr

Dr Kelly found himself at the centre of a row over a BBC report claiming
Downing Street "sexed up" a dossier on weapons of mass destruction after
he was named by the Government as the likely "mole" who briefed reporter
Andrew Gilligan.

The Government claimed Dr Kelly had come forward voluntarily to admit he
had spoken to the reporter.

But when he gave evidence to the House of Commons Foreign Affairs
Committee investigating the dossier some MPs suggested he had been set
up as a "fall guy" by the Government.

Dr Kelly, aged 59, had not been seen since leaving his home in Abingdon
at around 3pm yesterday after telling his wife he was going for a walk.

Tony Blair was informed of the discovery of the body as the Prime
Minister flew from Washington to Tokyo, Downing Street confirmed.

Police officers were guarding the entrance to a single track road
leading to Harrowdown Hill, where the body was found.

Reporters were not allowed within 600 yards of the hill, which is
crowned with a wooded copse and sits in the rolling south Oxfordshire
