According to the web site of France 2, 600,000 people marched in Paris 
today to protest the government's attempt to "reform" the retirement 
system.  See

Bernard Thibault, head of the CGT, said "If this demonstration isn't 
sufficient, there will be others." Mark Blondel, head of FO (Workers 
Force) called for strikes beginning May 27.

I haven't seen a report from Marseilles yet, but I would expect that the 
demonstration there to be almost as large as the one in Paris, which was 
much larger than the unions were predicting yesterday.

La préfecture de police de Paris a estimé de son côté le nombre de 
manifestants à 300.000.

"Non au plan Fillon", "Réformer, oui, tout casser non", pouvait-on lire sur 
les banderoles des manifestants, des enseignants et autres 
fonctionnaires, mais aussi des salariés du secteur privé
