It was, as the Bible put it, like scales had fallen from my eyes. This was what it was like, reading Renato Constantino in high school, discovering a reinterpretation of Philippine history after years of reading textbooks that told us we should be grateful to the Spaniards for giving us religion and to the Americans for giving us democracy.
