I visited Paul a few months ago at his home on 86th
street. While he was slow physically, his mind was as
sharp as a razor, as one could see by the articles and
reviews he continued to write until his last days. I
knew of him from my days in Socialist Action, and I
wanted to hear about his life, radicalism in the
1930s, his experiences in the SWP in the 40s and 50s
(when he left for a while). It was a real interesting
chat we had, and he was extremely sweet and
thoughtful. He was very excited about the prospects
for a new youth radicalization, and he loved having
young visitors. I remember thinking that I wanted to
record an interviw with him before he passed. I regret
not being able to do so in time. Fortunately he lived
a long and proud life, making some very significant
contributions to our movement.
