The problem is that factory farming as a *whole* is irrational, whether
the product is animal or vegetable. The strain this sort of
uber-farming puts on the environment is not sustainable over the long
term.

That said, you're quite correct; vegetarianism for *everybody* on the
planet is simply not going to fly. From a sustainability standpoint,
making sure that everyone has enough to eat over the long term will
require a serious evaluation--and change--of farming practices.
