Editors' Note
An article in The Metro Section on July 12 described Venezuelans who
traveled to the consulate in New York to register for a vote to recall
President Hugo Chávez. The article said Mr. Chávez had been "charged
with electoral fraud" in his 2000 election. Several opposition
politicians did accuse Mr. Chávez of fraud, and an early draft of the
article attributed the accusations to his critics. That attribution,
which should have been included in the published article, was omitted
during revisions.

The article should also have noted that independent international
monitors, including those from the Carter Center in Georgia, have said
that the 2000 election was legitimate despite irregularities that would
not have affected its outcome. Mr. Chávez won with 60 percent of the vote.
