One of the high points for me was actually hooking up with Jay, Will Miller
(also down from the U. of Vermont) and Stuart Lawrence who is studying law
at Cornell at lunch on Saturday. Honestly, the 45 minutes or so I spent
chatting with these comrades was more enlightening than anything I heard at
the panels. We spoke about Congressman Bernie Sanders, the war in Iraq, the
illegitimacy of the capitalist system and various other things. My post has
opened up a huge, somewhat acrimonious debate on pen-l about what
revolutionary socialism means and whether it has any relevance at all in a
country as politically backward as the USA. Thank god such questions don't
come up here.
