The turnout in Portland Or. for the March 20th rally was 10.000-12,000
far exceeding what organizers expected. At the head of both the march and
rally were contigents of vets and families of GI's in Iraq. A press
conference prior to the march produced a full page story on the anti-war
GI's in the local Oregonian newspaper.
A number of unions endorsed and were present including the ILWU and
SEIU locals.
The general mood of the crowd was anger and frustration at the continued
occupation of Iraq. There was less focus on Bush personality bashing and
very little presence of advocating for the democrats which felt healthy
given the election.
