it's instructive that, even 50 years on, the facts are still in dispute

even a very recent study (Saunders, Frances Stonor, Who Paid the Piper?
The CIA and the Cultural Cold War; Granta Books, London 1999) notes, in
relation to the allegation that Radio Free Europe had encouraged the
insurrectionists by going as far as promising armed support, that the
documents pertaining to this (transcripts of the broadcasts, kept by
Western intelligence as a matter of course) remain lost or unavailable
