We have to think of socialism and the speed with which it might be
implemented as a factor in determining how much of the planet will be
liveable at what level of quality by however many human beings.

The current mass extinction is almost entirely due to unmanaged and
unplanned human activities and their expansion in the pursuit of
unlimited profits. The longer it goes on, the harder it will to come
back from that. Then, again, global warming will reduce agricultural
products and clean water is already becoming scarce. As some real dire
consequences ensue, there will be biblical and New Age explanations
competing with class consciousness as an explanation on which the human
race can act.

However, as things get worse, the one thing of which we can be sure is
that someone will come up with something to sell to us that will solve
everything...

Best,
Mark L.
