Ahem! 1933?  When the average life expectancy reached 11?

The hunger and disease-related deaths in the 1990s certainly exceed that of 
immediately preceding decades, but don't quite come close to the 9 million 
excess deaths caused by starvation and hunger in the 1930s (according to 
Mike Haynes, Rumy Hasan, "State Murder", 2003).
