La Paz, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) A possible postponement is threatening
Bolivia's December 4 general elections Thursday, due to legal matters
and possible political interests.

At least three appeals lodged with the Constitutional Court may
determine a change of date or even the suspension of elections, which
were brought forward by the Congress following constitutional reform
due to a severe political and social crisis.

Senator Ana Mar¡a Flores, from the New Republican Force (NRF)
Wednesday appealed to the Constitutional Court opposing early general
elections, and the government informed that is analyzing a possible
postponement.

The topic gained in importance after the release of a survey last
weekend in which support increased for the presidential candidate
from the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), Evo Morales, whose polling
went from 15 to 21 percent, and put him in a virtual tie with ex
neo-liberal president Jorge Quiroga, who is stuck on 22 percent.

Morales considered that efforts to postpone elections result from the
certain victory of his movement in the elections.

The MAS leader said that the date of the elections must be respected,
though he declined to mention any measure to be adopted by his
movement in case of a postponement.
