YES!  They all did.  

This story isn't telling us too much new.

During the Cold War, any educational institution of any size had
veterans or consultants of--or recruiters for--the military and the
intelligence community.  Graduate students from the US who went into
Eastern Europe as part of their research or even for a vacation while
studying abroad would regularly be debriefed by military intelligence, as to
what they saw.

CB; Actually, I made a typo. That should have been handmaiden of
_colonialism_ more specifically, especially the British empire.
