Interestingly, Hamburg, too, was known as a "Red City", and nicknamed 
"The German Petrograd". It suffered a British night time bombing too, 
of it's working class districts, I think in 1943, which killed almost 
as many people as died at Dresden toward the end of the war.

There were sections of Hamburg that could not be entered by Nazis as 
late as 1934.
