YF> Yoshie (as well as Yoshiko) is a very popular female name in Japan

I would recognize Yoshiko immediately as a Japanese female given
name, but not Yoshie.

Yoshie sounds like an abbreviation in western style which could be
derived from many many different names without any fixed association
with the sex of the person being called like that. It always reminds
me of a song by Georg Kreisler "Es ist ja nur der Joschi, und der kann
nichts dafür".

But thanks for the explanation which ends my doubts.
