Anti-US Protests in Afghanistan Turn Deadly

Jalalabad - Anti-US demonstrations in the Afghani city of Jalalabad that
began yesterday have resulted in the deaths of four people today during
intervention by security forces.

Hospital records confirm that four people were killed and that 54 others
were wounded in today's incidents. Two other individuals were killed
during the demonstrations yesterday when local police and US forces
opened fire to control the crowd.

The protesters, most of whom are university students, have stepped up
their activities and went so far as to set fire to a building in the
eastern part of the city and plunder stores. United Nations (UN)
buildings are now faced with the danger of potential attacks.

Protestors are reacting to reports that interrogation officers at
America's Guantanamo Bay base insulted the Quran.
