Gregory Bright gestures in McComb, Miss., as he talks about the 27 years he
spent wrongfully imprisoned for murder in the Louisiana State Prison at
Angola. The district attorney has apologized to him and the corrections
department gave him a $10 check, but Bright still wonders if Louisiana owes
him something more. Louisiana has no law providing for payment to people who
were wrongly convicted and imprisoned. A bill introduced in the Legislature
would change that, creating a state fund to pay people like Bright $25,000
per year. The measure would also pay for job training and counseling
expenses. (AP Photo/The Enterprise-Journal, Aaron Rhoads.)
