Presidents of Iraq and Iran Meet

Teheran, Nov 21 (PL) Presidents of Iraq, Jalal Talabani, and Iran,
Mahmud Ahmadinejad, held what media described as a historic meeting
Monday, after 40 years of war and weak bilateral relations.

Ahmadineyad received the visitor at the airport, accompanied by Arab and
Islamic ambassadors from 20 countries, and expressed his people's
solidarity with the neighboring nation.

Talabani confirmed his conviction that the Islamic Republic would
contribute to Baghdad negotiations.

"I am sure that Iran will give us all the necessary help to eradicate
terrorism" from Iraqi territory, he said.

The meeting takes place amid tensions between the West, leading players
in the Iraqi military occupation, and Iran over its nuclear development

Teheran sustains that its atomic project is purely peaceful and
necessary for the economic development of the country.

The Iraqi dignitary arrived in Teheran accompanied by his programming
and electricity ministers and vice minister of foreign affairs for a
three-day official visit to meet with authorities and deal with the idea
of the US and Great Britain that Teheran supports the insurgents.
