Sorry, Lüko, Paddy is right on this.  They did, politically they did.

And this is something they will have to answer for some day, in the 
same way that the Social Democrats still owe the working class of the 
world their pro-war vote in August 1914.

Maybe they have already answered for that.  Political irrelevance is 
some kind of an answer.
