It is precisely the Cromwell period that is the focus of _Merchants &
Rebels_ -- and the fascinating feature of that book is the explanation
it gives of how _one_ powerful group of merchants stuck with the crown,
while another powerful group of merchants were the driving power of the
revolution.

And of course the main use Wood makes of it is to critique the core of
capitalist ideology, the thesis that capitalism _naturally_ emerged from
history and to establish the core Marxian thesis of the historicity of
capitalism.
