Com Rubnelli,
Thank you for your clarification. IT is one key sector
where no labour laws apply. Young minds are numbed by
rote and boring repetitive work that de-skills faster
than they have spent their time in college learning
the IT skills. Banglore alone has 0.8 million young IT
workers and Hyderabad nearly 0.6 million. I dont have
the figures for cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, Pune
and Delhi (Noida and Gurgaon areas, which are
technically outside Delhi). Very few of these young
people are engaged in creative and professionally
satsifying work, which suits their skills.
And more over, Call Centre business is like a flash in
a pan. It is expected that cyber characters will
replace these Call centre jobs in the not too distant
future. So leading companies in the call centre
business are diversifying into professional service
outsourcing such as engineering and legal consultancy
services.
But with such numbers, communists should have put
their effort into organising unions long back. Anyway,
better late than never.
Vijaya Kumar Marla
