Bolivian Opposition Praises Morales

La Paz, Apr 17 (Prensa Latina) Two of the main opposition parties in
Bolivia recognized the national illiteracy campaign "Yo Si Puedo"
(Yes I Can) being developed with Cuban supervision and collaboration
as an achievement of the Bolivian government.

The value of the campaign was admitted by leaders of political
parties Poder Democratico Social (PODEMOS) and Movimiento
Nacionalista

Revolucionario (MNR), Walter Guiteras and Jose Luis Harb,
respectively.

Both talked about this topic in a debate with Bolivian Presidency

Minister Juan Ramon Quintana, who highlighted the importance of
Bolivia giving more than a million Bolivian citizens access to
reading and writing on their own in a time limit of 30 months.

Walter Guiteras recognized the literacy campaign, salary reductions
and application of reduced electric power tariffs for poor people as
merits of the current Bolivian government.

Harb considered the campaign one of the most outstanding actions of
the government of President Evo Morales.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Felix Patzi opened four literacy points
in Yapacani, 638.76 miles east of La Paz, as part of the recently
opened campaign.

The campaign strives to make Bolivia a territory free of illiteracy
by eliminating the 13.3 percent illiteracy rate registered in a 2001
census.
